ATTIC Unions | Stef + Greg

Posted on

The ATTIC Unions project is a series of photographs shot by photographer
Lauren Kolyn, in collaboration with four couples that have worked with ATTIC to create their wedding jewellery.  Shot on a single roll of film over the course of a few hours, the goal of the project was to capture those beautiful unfiltered moments between two people in their shared world.

Every single day we are struck by our clients’ gestures of love. This is our ode to them, to you, and to unions of all kinds!

A special thank you to our couples, and to Lauren Kolyn for her soulful work on this project!

How did you two meet?

S: We met while dancing after midnight at Bambi’s… Our eyes definitely locked the moment I walked in. Maybe not quite love at first sight, but there was something pretty electric about it! I was there with my friends and when I saw Greg, I told them “that one is mine”

Was there a specific moment when you knew you wanted to marry this person?

G: There were a few moments when it really hit home how much I wanted to be with Stef. She went on vacation in Europe for two weeks right after we met, and we were emailing each other every day. I would wake up every morning and be excited to look for a message from her. There’s something really intimate about writing someone, and I think it really helped us get to know each other quickly. By the time she was coming back I knew I had fallen for her, and everything, including getting engaged, has been natural since.

How did the proposal go down?

S: It happened kind of accidentally - Greg had planned to propose over a long weekend, and had the ring in his pocket the whole time, waiting for the right moment. He kept suggesting cute date ideas but I was so busy with work that I kept thwarting his plans. Finally we were at home late on the Sunday night, doing laundry after dinner, our apartment a mess, both tired, and we ended up just hanging out and cuddling on top of our pile of laundry… Greg must have felt the pressure was on because when I asked him what he was thinking about, he just froze! His heart was beating so hard I could feel it through his shirt. It gave him away.

G: Stef loooooves the AGO, she’s a member, and it’s where we had our first date that we really connected. So I planned to ask her at the AGO, in that stairwell between the 4th and 5th floor. It’s got a beautiful view of the city, and it’s also a great place to make out. But the day I was going to propose, Stef was like “Nah, I don’t want to go to the AGO” In the end it was perfect - at home, intimate, just the two of us.

What song did you pick for your first dance?

“Into My Arms” Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

What was it like being photographed together?

The photographer was great and really made us feel comfortable. We love how the images turned out.
