Caring for Pearls
Pearls take their time.
Years to form, slowly, around a single grain of sand. The only gem made by a living creature. Their soft lustre and organic beauty are what make pearls so enduring, but they also require a little more care than other gemstones.
With a few simple habits, your pearls can be enjoyed for generations.
Pearls On Last, Off First
Hair products, perfume, lotions, sunscreen, and cosmetics can damage pearls over time. Apply all beauty products first and allow them to dry before putting on your pearl jewellery. At the end of the day, remove your pearls before applying skincare products.
Keep Them Away From Water and Chemicals
Avoid wearing pearls while swimming, showering, exercising, or cleaning. Chlorine, saltwater, and household chemicals can dull their lustre and weaken the materials used to string or secure them.
Clean Gently
After wearing your pearls, wipe them with a soft cloth to remove oils and residue. If needed, use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap, then dry immediately. Avoid jewellery cleaners, ultrasonic machines, and abrasive products.
Store Them Separately
Pearls are softer than most gemstones and can scratch easily. Store them separately from diamond and gemstone jewellery in a soft pouch or fabric-lined box. Pearl strands should be stored flat rather than hanging.
Wear With Care
Pearls are durable enough for regular wear when treated thoughtfully. Protect them from chemicals, excessive moisture, and abrasion, and they will maintain their beauty for years to come.
Whether worn every day or reserved for special occasions, proper care is the key to preserving their lustre for generations.
Pearl Strands
If worn frequently, pearl necklaces may eventually need restringing. Having strands inspected periodically will help ensure they remain secure and beautiful for years to come.
Like the pieces in Form, pearls reward patience. They are shaped slowly by nature and made to be lived in, collected, celebrated, and passed on.
