Why We Work With Natural Diamonds
At ATTIC, we work exclusively with natural diamonds, not as a trend or a marketing position, but because it has always aligned with who we are and our love for the natural world.
To us, a diamond is not just a material. It is a natural record of time, pressure, and transformation, formed deep within the earth over billions of years and carried forward as something entirely unique.
Rarity is not manufactured
Natural diamonds are finite. Each one is formed under conditions that will never be repeated in the same way again.
Even two diamonds with similar grades will never be identical in character. Subtle differences in structure, warmth, and light reflection give each stone its own presence.
This individuality is what we design around.
Character over perfection
Modern jewellery often prioritizes symmetry and uniform grading. We prioritize something else: character.
This is especially visible in the stones we choose, champagne diamonds, modern antique-cut diamonds, and uniquely coloured natural sapphires. These stones often carry soft variations, warmth, and nuance that make them feel alive rather than manufactured.
We don’t see these as imperfections. We see them as birthmarks from the earth.
Antique cuts: light, reimagined
Many of the diamonds we work with are true antique or modern antique-cuts.
These cuts were designed in a time before modern precision cutting, when diamonds were shaped by hand.
The result is a different kind of brilliance, softer flashes of light, a deeper, more romantic glow, a beautiful sense of movement.
For us, antique cuts feel more emotional than technical.
Sourcing with intention
We are also deeply intentional about sourcing, including working with Canadian-origin diamonds wherever possible.
For many of our clients, origin matters, not only from a traceability standpoint, but because it adds another layer of meaning to the piece they are creating.
A diamond becomes more than a gemstone. It becomes a story with a place.
Why this matters in custom design
When we design a custom piece, we are not trying to make every ring look the same.
We are designing around a specific stone, its shape, its warmth, its character, its individuality.
This approach creates jewellery that cannot be mass-produced or replicated. Each piece becomes a one-off expression of both the stone and the person it belongs to.
Our belief
We don’t work with natural diamonds because they are “better.” We work with them because they are real. And in a world of increasing replication, we believe real still matters.
Jewellery should not feel like something you could find anywhere - It should feel like it could only belong to you.
