Every piece we make begins with gold that has lived before.

Gold is one of the few materials that can be refined and reused indefinitely without losing its integrity. It has always moved between hands, ateliers and generations, reshaped, reimagined and kept in circulation.

At ATTIC, the gold we use to make our jewellery is refined recycled gold. That includes gold recovered from old jewellery, production offcuts, bench filings, gold dust and casting sprues, all collected and returned to professional precious metals refineries.

There, the gold is refined to a highly pure form and alloyed into fresh 14 or 18 karat yellow, white or rose gold.

Once refined, recycled gold is chemically identical to newly mined gold. The difference lies not in its quality, but in its journey.

Why we work with refined gold

Sustainability at ATTIC starts with the material itself. Newly mined gold carries a cost the metal never shows: land disturbed, energy spent, water used. Working with refined gold means we can keep existing gold in circulation, without requiring new gold to be mined.

Two ways of working

From this refined gold, we create our jewellery in two ways.

Cast gold

Cast pieces are created by pouring molten gold into custom moulds. This process allows us to produce complex forms while ensuring that every casting sprue and production offcut is collected and returned to the refining cycle.

Hand-fabricated gold

Hand-fabricated pieces are made from refined gold supplied as sheet, wire and stock. Each piece is formed by hand in our Toronto studio using traditional goldsmithing techniques.

A continuous material

As goldsmiths, we see this cycle firsthand. We believe nothing should be wasted, so even our gold bench scraps are collected and returned to the refining cycle. When clients bring heirloom gold into the studio, any unused material is also refined and reintroduced into use.

Gold does not disappear. It circulates.

Whether cast or hand-fabricated, every piece we make is part of that continuous cycle. We are simply writing one chapter of its ongoing life.

Sourced Components

Our commitment to refined recycled gold applies to the gold we use to make ATTIC jewellery.

We also offer a small selection of finished components, including Italian-made chains. These are sourced from established jewellery suppliers, but we do not currently have sufficient information to verify the origin of the gold used in these products.

We believe transparency means being clear about what we know, and what we don't.
